Treating your waiter/waitress right

Today I thought I should share with you something that's some how very close to heart. When I was in university I used to work part time as a waitress. I actually really enjoyed my job. It allowed me to meet so many different people from all walks of life, I made new friends and I was able to explore London. I worked in many different events in different areas like: Buckingham palace and i got to see Prince Charles and Camilla, Glamour awards and i got to see Katy Perry, Jason Button, Dizzie Rascal, Kylie Mnogue and more, I worked at this huge charity party in Greenwich were I saw Simon Cowell, Uma Thurman, Tony Blair, Liz Hurley, etc. okay by now am sure you get my point.lol.sorry i had to boast.

Anyway back to my point, being a waitress in not easy but can be fun. You are on your feet for long hours, by the time you get home you just want to soak in a bath and sleep. There are a few rules that we were always told at work about how to treat the customer and to make sure they are happy. But the two rules that stuck with me are 1) The Customer is ALWAYS right 2) always SMILE

I remember this one time I was serving canapés, and there I was with my tray moving up and down but the people didn't want to eat. The manager still made us go back because the food was paid for and at the end of the night if there was any left it would be thrown away. This lady, I guess she got tired of me asking, and she just told me in this aggressive way, "Go Away", I was already going through so much that week as well, and I guess she just topped it off, I just went to the bathroom crying, I don't even know why I let her get to me. Then one of the guests saw me and came to comfort me,she told me you need to remember why you are doing this, its not forever. And I thought to myself yeah, this is just temporary, she had no right to make me feel that way and I shouldn't have let her. That's just an example of some abuse waiters/waitresses could receive.I have had grown old men hitting on me which I found very disrespectful but I knew why I was there, I kept my head held high and kept doing my job.

Sometimes I would put so much effort at work, I would say I had the best customer service yet when some one leaves, they either don't tip you or put a quid or so. I mean seriously, what am I going to do with a pound? yeah I know I could get something but come on. Anyway so my waitressing days are over and it was a good lesson for me. Now each time I go eat at a restraurant I always say please, thank you, when I tip I at least try to put 5 pounds and I am never short of a smile, because i know how it feels.

What did you think my luvvies? Did you once get treated badly at a job you used to have or still do? Do you tip your waiters? Please do feel free to share.Till next time.....

Die Hard Fans

Football/Soccer is one of the most watched sport in the world. Today i thought i should introduce you to three die hard fans i know. These people love football but most of all love their clubs.

Rama

I met Rama through my boyfriend (pascal), they are very good friends. I would like to say we get along well and we speak once in a while. Anyway Rama is a die hard ARSENAL fan. His facebook statuses always amuse me, especially when arsenal lose, his always saying, "say whatever you want to say but i will die supproting arsenal"

The time that stood out to me the most was when Manchester United beat Arsenal 8-2. And every one was writting to him making fun of him. The night before the game he had posted on his Facebook status saying, "My dear friends who are going to church please pray with me that Arsenal whoops Man Utd",lol.I have him on my Blackberry messenger as a contact and i saw status updates almost every minute the day of the game. The one that made me drop to my knees laughing was when he said,"Thats it, i have broken up with my girlfriend" Lol!

Anyway i guess you get my point. I have attached some pictures for you to see, hope you enjoy and am sure he could make you fall in love with Arsenal too.

Uncle Peter

Uncle Peter is another die hard fan i know. He supports his country ENGLAND and WESTHAM UNITED. Every sunday when there is a game we have to watch it, or he goes to watch it at the pub.

The time that stood out for me the most was during the world cup when England was playing against Germany and lost. He was watching the game at the pub at thE time. He got so upset and took off his jersey and threw it, then some one asked if they could take it and he said no, after he had realised that he still had to come home.lol.He came home so pissed and just blacked out on the sofa. I have attached some pictures for you, maybe he could make you fall in love with Westham too.

Raymond

My 3rd die hard fan is Raymond. He is my young brother. I have watched his Love for MANCHESTER UNITED grow and grow over the years. When Man Utd is playing and they lose, he's mood will change and will just go staight to bed, he wont even eat and wont want anyone to speak to him. Man Utd is the theme of his room.He has Man Utd tooth brushes, Towel, Tea cup, Cereal bowl you name it.lol. He has to get the new jerseys the minute they come out with his name printed on the back. He always gets himself a full Man Utd Kit. We call raymond the football dictionary because there is nothing he doesnt know. I am sure you get the picture, i have attached some pictures for you and who knows, maybe he could make you fall in love with Man Utd like he made me.

What do you think about my 3 Die Hard football fans and the teams they support? Did they make you fall in love with their teams? What teams are you passionate about? Please do feel free to share. Till next time...

Africans Abroad

Africans Abroad is a new talk show which  broadcasts from Hollywood California. Its a fun talk show that's meant to bring people from all corners of the world together. I found out about this talk show because my friend Hellen Dausen is on it.
Hellen is one of the most beautiful people i know. She has ambition and drive. She is definately destined for greatness.I wish her nothing but the best in everything she does. Here is a beautiful picture of her.

Back to the talk show. I think its a nice show, i love the idea behind it. Its almost like a group of friends having a discussion. When i look at it i immediately think of Chelsea lately, only because of the co-hosts part. If i had any constructive criticism, its that i wish the interior designing was better, there is something about that leather sofa, i feel like it sinks them in,lol, but hey that's just my opinion. I love how rachel speaks, she seems very confident but i dont like the fact that she is holding that pen and the papers, i wish she had palm cards like how Tyra or Oprah would do it, makes it look neater, again thats my opinion. Another part i noticed that i didnt like is when Cynthia was talking about the president of Libya before Gaddafi and she didnt even remember the name, but i love the fact that Rachel steps in and said, "Who would, i mean its been 42 years?", this part showed very good improvisation, then again there was a point were it went silent for a good second and they were all looking else where, seems some one was reminding her the name. That i didnt really like. This is my opinion though.I love hellen and honestly sometimes i just cant wait for her to speak, i mean i do watch it because of her, lol. Anyway i have put a clip from their first episode for you, and if you like it you could always watch more of it on youtube. Mind you this was their first episode so they have time to grow and improve.

What did you think about the show my luvvies? Did you like it? What constructive criticism would you give them? Please do feel free to share. Till next time....

Come Cook With Me

Lorraine Pascale is one of my favourite chefs. She has amazing recipes. When i saw her making the five-spice baked ribs on BBC, i was like i have to make this. The Ribs look delicious, so here is a recipe for you to try as well.

FIVE-SPICE BAKED RIBS

So very, very tasty and super easy, this is messy, sticky finger food.

Ingredients

For the rub
For the ribs
For the honey glaze

Preparation method

  1. Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6. Line a large baking tray or roasting tin with aluminium foil.
  2. For the rub, crush the star anise, fennel seeds and Sichuan peppercorns in a pestle and mortar. Then add the five-spice powder and some salt and mix together to combine.
  3. Put the ribs into a bowl, sprinkle over the rub mixture and rub everything in. Tip the ribs onto the baking tray and spread them out in a single layer.
  4. Cook in the oven for 45 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, mix all the ingredients for the honey glaze in a small pan. Warm over a low heat until the honey is melted and all the ingredients are well combined.
  6. Remove the ribs from the oven, brush generously with the honey glaze, then sprinkle with the spring onions and season well with salt and freshly ground black pepper. (Set the rest of the honey glaze aside for later.)
  7. Return the ribs to the oven and cook for a further 15 minutes.
  8. Once the ribs are cooked, remove them from the oven and tip them onto a large plate. Reheat the remaining honey glaze and serve as a dipping sauce with the ribs and a large green salad.
What did you think of the recipe my luvvies? Did you try to make the ribs, if so how did you find it cooking them and how did they turn out? Please do feel free to share. Till next time...

Poetry Corner

I thought i should share some poems with you. My friend harrieth is a beautiful writter, she writes some amazing poems. She always used to read them to me. I love them all and i think she is talented. She also has her blog: leofaith.blogspot.com so feel free to go and check it out.

LOVE
In everything we do,we must stay true,
To what we believe in,to what we feel within
Life is too short and it's too hard to sort
We have one chance to live, one opportunity to breathe
Love and pain and everything else we get
We treasure it,we keep it and sometimes we want to forget
But no matter how far we go,the world will always show
What is precious to us,what we cant adjust
The value of true love,ur one and only love

SKY
Ooh you lovely sky,am thinking to myself why
Up is where you stay but rilly so far away
You are so clear and blue
Shapeless but still beautifull
I wonder how you were made
If it took a century or a decade
When will you ever touch the ground
Will you make movements or even a sound
Sometimes you are out of my sight
Most times especially in the night
Where do you usually go
I really want to know
I hope one day you will come
So we can live together as one

What did you think of the poems my luvvies? I will try and post more for you each week. Please do feel free to share your views and thoughts with me. Till next time.....
